Fusing Art and Nature

Creating a Dynamic Life Park

Kindergarten Outdoor Design

Design Concept

This project takes us to the southeastern part of Fujian, a small city nestled between mountains and the sea. The warm, humid climate brings abundant rainfall, nurturing vibrant forests with rich greenery.

From a distance, the Jiufeng Mountain stands tall with a veil of mist, and up close, the Longjiang River meanders under the clear blue sky. Children are born in nature and grow within it. From the activities rooted in Chinese land to educational approaches like Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf, the terms "nature" and "art" are inseparable. Art is a human way of understanding the world and often requires participation in nature, a harmonious blending of the two.

Kindergarten Outdoor Design

"Art comes from nature, yet it transcends nature, being nature humanized." We endeavor to unite art and nature, allowing children to immerse themselves in the art of nature, where their childhood can truly flourish with its unique brilliance.

Tiny Hands Ring the Doorbell of Art

Kindergarten Outdoor Design

The school's name wall has a white base with accents of primary colors. Below it, there is a small flower bed and a tiny children's door. Through this artistic metaphor, it symbolizes not only children's growth like thriving seedlings but also the dual themes of "nature" and "art." The logo of the kindergarten reflects the vision of teachers and children growing hand in hand within nature.

Constructing Pathways Flowing with Music

Kindergarten Outdoor Design

Large outdoor toys always take center stage in kindergartens. On one hand, they determine the quality and enthusiasm of children's outdoor activities. On the other hand, they form the initial impression seen by parents from outside the kindergarten. We combine pathways with flowing water to maximize the outdoor play area within limited space.

Kindergarten Outdoor Design

Music flows in the gurgling water, describing dreams and spring. The pathway is themed around "music," featuring embellishments on the façade such as trumpets and musical notes. The connecting spaces of the pathway feature different shapes, including "flute and dulcimer" and "musical notes." Below the observation platform, "flute wind chimes" have been added, creating a melodious sound when the wind blows gently.

The platform is designed with dual spatial planning. The upper pathway serves as a poetic and natural resting area for children to gaze into the distance and play. The lower level provides space for exercising, cognitive development, and mathematics through activities like abacus arithmetic and a flipping wall. It also includes energy-releasing activities like the disk swing, spider net, tire climbing, and physical endurance training through the suspension rings. Every child can find endless joy here.

Green Spaces for Growing Childhood

1. Playful and Lively: A Tiny Soccer Field

Returning nature to the lush forest, we have set up a green area on one side of the large toys—a soccer field. Soccer not only increases children's enthusiasm for sports but also significantly boosts their teamwork skills. The artificial turf helps prevent injuries while echoing the tall surrounding trees, creating a visual sense of beauty.

2. Creativity Found in the Moment: Creative Workshop

Kindergarten Outdoor Design

Step through the layers of woods, and you'll discover a mysterious dwarf house— the handicraft workshop. Its vivid and playful appearance provides children with a continuous source of creativity. The small house is positioned north, and a cluster of shrubs surrounds it, forming a maze of flower boxes. Here, children can hide and play, surrounded by nature.

3. Playful Sandscape: A Gift from Nature

Kindergarten Outdoor Design

The sandpit is another area that stimulates children's physical activity. We've moved away from the traditional sandpit format and have created a warm sandscape. Simple railings enclose the sandpit, and along the edges, there are obstacle boards and slides, enriching the range of games for children and naturally forming an independent play area.

The sandpit resembles a golden butterfly dancing in the woods. The large toys within it provide vertical extension to the play area, and the sand acts as a natural cushion, offering a sense of safety. Children are encouraged to try more challenging and exploratory activities.

Conclusion

The more artistic something is, the truer it is to the essence of life; and the more natural something is, the more it reveals the essence of childhood. Through a clever collaboration of art and nature, childhood can return to its essence. Connecting with nature and making friends with the forest is a path that every child, and even every adult, must traverse. May we all journey through life with unending childlike wonder.
