O’Kai Childcare Center

This facility is a childcare and early education center adjacent to a residential neighborhood. The director of the center aims to maintain architectural harmony with the surrounding buildings while also showcasing its unique character. The main building of the center is designed in an American style, with Chinese-style gardens and courtyards surrounding it. The fusion of Eastern and Western architectural cultures creates a tranquil and pleasant children's paradise.

❖ The exterior walls of the center are adorned with a low, elegant wooden fence adorned with lush flowers, making it irresistible to enter the inner courtyard.

❖ Following the fragrance of the flowers, one can slowly push open the gate. Since the center is located in the northern region, the designer used colorful materials for the pathways to add vibrancy to the center during the autumn and winter seasons, reminiscent of playful and dynamic splashes of paint from children's artwork. In front of the pathway, there is a small water feature. The tranquil pool water nourishes everything within the center.

❖ Along the serene path to the left of the colorful pathway is the nursery, filled with fragrant flowers that permeate the entire courtyard. Beneath a late-blooming cherry blossom tree in the nursery, there is a bright glasshouse. On rainy days, children can listen to the sounds of the rain while inside the glasshouse.

❖ Behind the glasshouse, there is a concealed sandbox and a meandering shallow pool. A wooden platform surrounds the sandbox, which can be easily covered with wooden boards when not in use, providing convenience for cleaning and ensuring safety and hygiene. The design of the water pool is particularly clever, with a manually operated water pump at its source, allowing children to freely control the water level, stimulating their observational and thinking skills during play.

❖ Walking to the end of the shallow pool and crossing the small boat-shaped dock platform, you arrive at the climbing training area known as the "Songlin Pond" on the left side of the center. To emphasize the center's nature-based philosophy, the climbing equipment utilizes non-powered mechanisms, providing an excellent opportunity to enhance children's physical coordination skills.

❖ Passing through the ironwork pergola behind the climbing area, you enter the outdoor hands-on experience area in the backyard. This area includes a woodworking workshop, an outdoor kitchen, a music stage, art graffiti, a pottery workshop, and a whimsical cabin. Nearly all indoor activities are hidden within this secret garden, allowing children to nurture their most wondrous imagination and creativity in the great outdoors.
