Kindergarten Design

▲Activity Room

Preschool education is a critical starting point for implementing environmental education. Environmental education can be categorized as broad or narrow. In a narrow sense, it refers to educational concepts related to environmental protection, while in a broader sense, it encompasses all the influences of the environment on children.

In kindergartens, where children spend most of their time, the environment profoundly impacts them. The emotions and cognitions formed by children in their environment are just as important as what they learn through regular teaching.

The guidelines also emphasize, "Kindergartens should provide children with a healthy and rich living and activity environment to meet their various needs, allowing them to gain experiences beneficial to their physical and mental development in a joyful childhood."

▲Entrance Hall

The connotations of broad environmental education have become rich over time. Besides various theories, most institutions have summarized their own experiences based on practical teaching situations, involving institution renovations, creative environment creation, and local curriculum development.

Through long-term collaboration and exchanges with top-tier early childhood education experts from institutions like Beijing Normal University and Nanjing Normal University, Hope Kindergarten has further presented and deepened the details of indoor space design based on abundant experience in children's space design and environmental education concepts.

Creating a Home Atmosphere

Creating a home atmosphere in kindergarten is of paramount importance. For children, a home atmosphere is a space where love and warmth coexist, which is conducive to their healthy and natural growth. For teachers, it is a harmonious working environment that enables them to conduct teaching activities effectively and realize their own value.

A harmonious environmental atmosphere shifts the emphasis from the tension created by "human efforts" to "environmental influence." Each individual is an important member of the kindergarten family, and children become the natural driving force behind the spatial design.

▲Entrance Hall

From the entrance hall, the creation of a home atmosphere is evident in the design details of the space. The primary color scheme of white and wood color instills a strong healing atmosphere in the space. The use of pastel colors and green accents in certain areas adds a fresh and delightful touch. The extensive use of "house" structures aims to give tangible educational warmth to the space.

Efficient Utilization of Public Areas

Creative Wall Surfaces and Corners

1. Wall Surfaces as a "Kaleidoscope": Kindergarten wall surfaces can be functionally divided into thematic walls, regular walls, activity area walls, home information walls, etc. The key to wall surfaces' involvement in environmental education lies in whether they can actively engage children in their creation, providing them with opportunities for hands-on experiences.

In daily environmental creation work, there is often a trade-off between aesthetics and children's participation. The significance of space design is to lay a solid foundation for high-quality and efficient environmental creation work in the future.

In this project, based on a reasonable division of wall surface functions, a diverse range of creative wall surfaces has been created, covering various attributes such as games, graffiti, displays, and storage. Most wall surfaces offer high plasticity, ensuring the active involvement of children in environmental creation while maintaining the overall comfort and aesthetics of the space.

2. Functional Corners: Creative corners allow children to learn through play and promote physical and psychological development. A relaxed and joyful learning atmosphere, abundant operating materials, and independent learning methods effectively compensate for the limitations of collective teaching in kindergartens.

Reading Corner: Reading steps shaped like books align with children's concrete cognitive habits. Combined with soft seating areas below, a diverse reading environment is provided, with multiple windows ensuring ample natural light.

Arts and Crafts Area: The arts and crafts area includes desks, workbenches, perforated board tool walls, and various forms of material. This setup helps children handle various low-structure materials effectively, unleashing their creativity and imagination. An open metal hanging net allows for the display of various types of artwork.

Nature as a Framed Landscape

Four Seasons' Beauty: Art originates from nature, from life. It captures the fragrant shades and shades tall trees. Through winds, frost, ice, and snow, it depicts the purity and charm of the four seasons. Each season carries different winds and scents. When a corner of the canvas flutters in the clear breeze, the harmony between people and nature at that moment reaches a deeper level.

Art Gallery: Walking in this art gallery, the power of the environment to nurture individuals becomes even more profound. In every environmental design, we create a soil conducive to education, while the ever-evolving educational concepts drive the progress of design.
