Xiamen Xiangchen Kindergarten

For most architectural design and construction projects, the humanistic aspect of a building is crucial. For a kindergarten project, creating a family-like atmosphere is of utmost importance.

In this project, we chose a Japanese minimalist style as the primary theme for the entire interior space of the kindergarten. We aimed to create a warm and natural home for children. The design is exceptionally clean and bright, with the use of colors, geometric lines, and natural light, giving the space a maximum sense of warmth, openness, and freedom.

In the entrance hall, different lighting channels create rich and varied shapes of natural light and shadows on the floor. The use of simple and vibrant colors creates a dynamic and visually stimulating environment. The spherical pendant light design enriches the spatial hierarchy, addressing the issues of rigid and lifeless space.

Even more importantly, this environment encourages and extends important abilities such as imagination, expression, and creativity through appropriate interactions.

Blue represents wisdom and creativity, orange symbolizes passion and imagination, and green signifies nature and vitality. Combined with spherical, trapezoidal, and "house" shaped doorways, the interplay of color and geometric lines creates a natural flow, giving the space a tangible warmth and educational character.

The activity room continues the minimalist style, eliminating superfluous design and preserving the natural attributes of the space. An overly designed space can limit its potential and inclusiveness, while the charm of simplicity lies in stimulating children's inner imagination and creativity, allowing them to freely express themselves without constraints.

In the reading room, extensive windowed walls efficiently utilize natural light and provide a connection between the interior and natural scenery. This helps nurture children's curiosity, and the natural framed views capture every wonderful moment from each season, becoming beautiful memories of kindergarten life.

The use of color and geometric lines in the multipurpose room creates a different visual effect - a contrasting sense of beauty. Extensive use of wood colors creates ample white space, and the use of contrasting colors focuses the visual field, helping with the development of the children's sensory system.

The "pleasant afternoon time" is a unique spatial experience in the baking room. The aroma of baking lingers among the curtains and wooden beams, providing a delightful sensory experience. In this warm and comfortable environment, children can enjoy the satisfaction of hands-on activities.

In the science room, playful and science-related elements like embedded ceiling lights with a futuristic touch and scientific graffiti on the walls were incorporated into the minimalist theme.

In the eyes of children, the flickering lights act as a wormhole leading to a mysterious planet. Their curiosity about the unknown will guide them to explore and understand science.

The minimalist style in children's space design is a form of "emptiness" and "fullness." "Emptiness" comes from the lack of limitations and the space's inclusiveness and expansiveness. "Fullness" is about understanding the infinite potential that children have from a very young age, even when they are just learning to speak.
